It was snuggle time. The boys and I were piled into our big bed while John was getting ready to leave for work.

Merritt was cuddled close and nursing, Troy was climbing back and forth across my legs and telling me about his dream of going downstairs to get water in the night–which didn’t actually happen, whatever he may say. His chatter and nonstop movement were distracting his little brother who wasn’t sure if nursing was really better than playing. John and I were talking over the noise about the plans for the week, the refrigerator repair man coming today, and the race I’m running in a few months.

I’d been awake for all of ten minutes and had already been a food source, a comforter, a listener, a planner, a wannabe runner, and a jungle gym.

Troy suddenly stopped mid-somersault and crawled across the bed to me. He took my face in his hands and said, “I take good care uh’ you, Mommy.”

Aw, how cute, I thought to myself.

“You cold, Mommy? I getchoo a blankie.”

He promptly pulled the sheet and quilt off me before spreading his little blue blankie over my knees. He smoothed it out carefully on either side and then sat back.

“Whoa. THAT’s hard! I’n all done takin’ good care uh’ YOU, Mommy.”

Wonder what he’d think if I said that tonight after I’ve tucked him in?
